Don’t park in the fire lane at a school. It defies common sense and is against the law (Im pretty  sure). I’m a t a wrestling tournament and true school wasn’t enforcing it yesterday but the fire dept. showed up today because a kid got injured me made them clear it. The towings are commencing. The funny part is that my boss wanted me to park the truck and trailer in the fire zone for ease of access and he said they wouldn’t care but I told him no it was a bad idea and parked it about a hundred yards from the building. Now I get to tell him I was right

Oh, what’s the worst that could happen? Maybe a few children die because the FD is delayed in getting into the building?

Seems like a fair tradeoff to save me walking 50 feet, tbh.

I’ve never been stopped in a fire lane for more than a few minutes for loading purposes

That said, I have parked my motorcycle on the apron walkways of large buildings and complexes as long as there’s room for it without impeding foot traffic.

Fire engines should have cow pushers and the freedom to use them.

Or this - whichever the FD feels is most convenient for them:

I like when my former city said “fuck you” and solved the problem themselves

Same, loading and unloading is different than parking and leaving. I actually unload my equipment in the fire lane as the there is no other way to to get it throu gh the front door. But I leave it running flashers on and never leave line of sight. I’m with you on motorcycles parking. They take up so little room it’s and are so easily moved if they are in the way that you might as well.

“ Park”, l ike in a temporary s ense, or in a permanent sense? Sure, fire lanes are very much NOT parking spots, but they are often considered to be le gitimate loading zones. I’ve certainly “ parked” in fire lanes more times than I can count , but only for a few minutes at a time. Mostly in company work trucks, for quick loa ding/unloading upon arrival, or shortly before leaving, and always with flashers on .

I’m completely fine with this solution if it’s needed.

I do feel sorry for the BMW that gets damaged since it looks like it was legally parked and was damaged when they couldn’t push the police car further out of the way

Park like, park and go inside and leave it. He’s a good friend though so we had a good laugh when I told him how much a dingus he was. He was like “ oh yeah guess I didn’t think about t hat”.  Duh doi

I love that they could easily have routed the hose differently, but fuck you

Haha, yeah I guess it was bound to happen eventually. Maybe not specifically the fire dept showing up, but you’d think at some point an officer would notice or something.

BTW, you mentioned “the towings are commencing”... were there other cars parked in the fire lane too?

In theory it should depend on the sign. There are three things it might say (this is based on NY law, but I assume other states are similar):

No Parking: Can load/unload people and goods, but may not leave the vehicle unattended, even briefly.

No Standing: May quickly drop off/pickup people but not goods, but may not wait for passengers.

No Stopping: No drop offs/loading/waiting of any sort.

Fire lanes are normally marked as “ No Parking”, but ones with stricter signage do exist.

Yes, I never got towed having never parked there. About twenty to thirty cars were in the fire lane. The entire fire lane was filled. They made an announcement I’ve the school wife pager and everyone but 3 moved their cars. By the time the tow truck arrived two of those had also moved at the last second . In the end only one got towed.

I read about that one that they actually had to route it that way so they could get decent pressure. Routing around the car would have been tighter than they could manage and still get the pressure and flow  they needed.

I’m afraid I never took the time to actually look it up for my state. Doing so right now .

Hm. Well as much as I would like to think that strict temporary usage as a loading zone would be in keeping with the spirit of the law, there is apparently no such allowance in the letter of the law. There’s even a part about buses being permitted to briefly block a fire hydrant for the purpose of “taking on or discharging passengers”, but there appears to be no such exception for fire lanes.
